The Griffin's Story - 1970s
It's been over 140 years since Griffin's first started in Nelson. In that time we have had an exciting journey. Follow our history
from humble flour milling beginnings all the way to where we are today, one of New Zealand's largest branded food companies.
1971: To boost Griffin’s sweets offering the leading confectionery company Sweetacres was acquired, which manufactured brands such as Jaffas and Minties. This helped boost Griffin’s to over 50% share of the confectionery market in New Zealand. New equipment at the Lower Hutt factory helped us launch Pebbles, which managed to beat rival Smarties to the market.

1970's: Cookie Bear was born in the 1970s and got his start as the ambassador for Chocolate Chippies and Shrewsburys. Although originally part of the Hudson Brand, Cookie Bear and all his biscuits eventually joined the Griffin’s family in the 1990s.
